Meet Makayla

Makayla is a journalist with a passion for telling stories that matter.

Her standout work includes investigations into how the US election delayed an Australian parliamentary inquiry and the impact of the government’s social media ban on children. 

In 2025, she was a finalist in the IT Journalism Awards (The Lizzies) for her reporting on the technology sector. 

Makayla began her career as a researcher on ABC’s 7.30 before moving into reporting roles at the Western Weekender and Daily Mail. Most recently, she was a journalist at AdNews, a trade publication covering the media, marketing and advertising industries. Her byline has also appeared in the Blue Mountains Gazette, Parra News and Sydney Sentinel

She holds a Bachelor of Communication (with Distinction) from Western Sydney University and is currently open to freelance writing opportunities and editorial projects.
